Alaska Airlines is adding several flights from Los Angeles and San Diego this fall  in a bid to win more passengers in the crowded Southern California market,

The Seattle-based carrier on Thursday announced seven new routes from Los Angeles International Airport, including the first nonstop flight to Fort Myers, Florida, a popular East Coast vacation spot, and additional Hawaii flights.

The new routes will boost the number of nonstop destinations Alaska offers to and from LAX to 35, the airline said. The airline gained a foothold in California with its 2016 purchase of Virgin America and has been growing since, most recently announcing service earlier this year to five new destinations.

The airport is already served by most major airlines, and JetBlue recently announced plans to shift its service from Long Beach, California, to LAX, this fall.

“LAX is one of Alaska’s important hub markets and continues to offer valuable opportunities for selective expansion,” Brett Catlin, Alaska's managing director of capacity planning and alliances, said in a statement.

Alaska is also adding new nonstop flights to Florida from San Diego, Portland and Seattle.
